Question
I am attempting to create the Glycolytic pathway (Glc rightarrow Pyruvate) in vitro. I purify all the enzymes of the pathway, the co-factors required, NAD+ and ATP. I then mix all these components together and add Glucose. I then measure the ratio of Pyruvate:Glucose in the mixture over time. My data is shown in the graph. At the point marked "X" in the graph, I added an additional purified protein (that is not a component of the Glycolytic pathway). MOST LIKELY what protein did I add? Explain your answer.Explanation / Answer
Most likely the purified protein is --Insulin as this increase the rate of the reaction suddenly and it is not a part of the glycolytic pathway. As insulin lowers the glucose level from blood if this is added the rate of glycolysis increased and more glucose gets converted to pyruvate.
