Please answer the following questions 3 & 4. Show all work and reasoning. Thank you very much!

A positive charge q is placed on the y-axis at the location y = 3.0 m. Another positive charge is placed on the y-axis at the location y--3.0. The magnitude of the charge q 3. 7.0 y-axis tq 3.0 m 3.0 m +q 4.0 m P e-x-axis Which of the potential at the point P? Express your answer in Volts. 4. A sphere encloses a total of+1 uC of charge. What is the electric flux through the surface of the sphere? What would be the electric flux through the surface of the sphere if you doubled the radius of the sphere? (The total charge inside stays the same.) a. b.

Explanation / Answer

Given,

Q = 7 uC ;

Using pythgoras theorem, the distance of charges from P will be:

r = sqrt (3^2 + 4^2) = 5 m

We know that electric potential is a scalar quantity. So the potential at P is the scalar sum of potentials due to both the charges.

Vp = V1 + V2

Vp = kq/r + kq/r = 2 k q/r

Vp = 2 x 9 x 10^9 x 7 x 10^-6/5 = 2.52 x 10^4 Volts

Hence, Vp = 2.52 x 10^4 Volts
