Question

I have no idea how I got the magnitude of acceleration part wrong. Please lead me to the right answer of how to get the magnitude of acceleration and show work for it:

1. 1/2 points | Previous Answers OSColPhys2016 5.1.P.004. Suppose you have a 142-kg wooden crate resting on a wood floor. (a) What maximum force (in N) can you exert horizontally on the crate without moving it? 695.8 (b) If you continue to exert this force (in m/s2) once the crate starts to slip, what will the magnitude of its acceleration then be? 2.94 x m/s2 Additional Materials Reading

Explanation / Answer

b] Magnitude ma = Fapplied - kinetic friction = Fapplied - uk mg

142a = 695.8 - uk*142*9.8

a = [695.8-uk*142*9.8]/142

= [695.8-0.3*142*9.8]/142

= 1.96 m/s^2 answer

Note: Answe can vary for different value of coefficient of kinetic friction uk. I have taken uk as 0.3 which is close.
