Question
problem reads:A radar station locates a sinking ship at range 17.3 km and bearing136° clockwise from north. From the same station
a rescue plane is at horizontal range 19.6 km, 153°clockwise
from north, with elevation 2.20 km. (a) Write the position
vector for the ship relative to the plane, letting ˆi
represent east, ˆj north, and ˆk up. (b) How far apartare the
plane and ship?
My graph has North situated at 90*; East 0*,360* and the vectors Aand B are in the 4th quadrant.
I have viewed the solution to the problem, but do not understandwhy the position vector of A (radar station to ship) is
(17.3sin136*i+17.3cos136*j)km. I thought Ax =Acos, so why is
Ax = Asin for this problem?
