1. The most specific problem that relates to obesity is Diabetes.
People who are obese are more likely to develop insulin resistance, which can lead to type 2 diabetes.
The risk of type 2 diabetes increases as BMI (body mass index) increases. People will be at higher risk for type 2 diabetes if they have a large percentage of body fat in the abdominal area even though their BMI is within the normal range.
2. a). A wide range of government policies and programs have been implemented, including the development of national clinical guidelines, nutritional labeling on the packed foods, education and social marketing etc
b) The goal to study is to maintain these behaviors for a decade to determine whether improvement in outcome can be demonstrated.
c) Prevention of complications rather than just prevention of worsening glycemic should be the goal for diabetes prevention. Pharmacologic approaches are equally promising for diabetes prevention.
