how does each frequency with 500 grams compare with the frequencyfor the standing wave with the same number of anti-nodes when therewere 300 grams suspended from the end of the string.


I don't understand if mass has any relation to frequency..I read inan article for a pendulum exp which was similar to this one, that"Mass doesn't affect the motion at all." However, from my labresults the initial one for 1 anti-node, had a frequency of 13 forthe 300 grams and 18 for the 500 grams, basically there wasslightly higher frequency for the 500 grams then the 300 groups.How can I explain this scientifically? Thanks

The masses 300 and 500 g provide the tension in thestring. v = (F / (m / l))    is the equation forthe speed of the wave in the string where F = tension instring v2 / v1 = (F2 /F1)     since the mass per unitlength of the string is the same in both measurements v2 / v1 = (500 g / (300 g))= 1.3      for the ratios of the speeds ofthe two different waves Since v = f       f2 / f1 = v2 /v1   1.3      thecalculated ratio of the frequencies ( is the same in both cases since the distance betweennodes is the same in both measurements) f2 / f1 = 18 / 13 =1.4      the measured ratio of thefrequencies
