Question
Can someone please answer the following question?
You have just joined a lab and are given the following project. The lab has been growing cancer cell lines in the presence of gamma tocopherol and has shown that it causes the cancer cells to undergo apoptosis (programmed cell death). The lab would like to identify which genes are involved. Design a project to identify which genes might be involved, so that you can impress the PI and get a good recommendation for med school. How will you confirm your initial results? Be sure to detail your experimental design.
Explanation / Answer
For doing this experiment we can go from backward study.. We will start with the transcriptomic study.. After growing the cell in the desired media we can analyze the all the different types of protein formed after incubation with the media..!! This study is called transcriptomic study..
After the protein analysis we can go for the genomic analysis which codes for the those particular protein formed after the incubation of the cell in the media..!! We can study or know the genes encoding those protein..
After finding those gene we can set up different experiments where we can silence or mutate those gene portion in a different cell and can check out the cell in which no apoptosis occurs. Through this we can determine which gene inhibitions results in apoptotoc under same growing conditions..
