As a landscape engineer/architect for a company, you are asked to examine problems associated with the design of walkways, the location of trees and garden beds, the grading of land around buildings, and any other topographic features. Assume that you have been hired by a specific city park, college campus, apartment complex, community, or company with which you are familiar. Your objective is to evaluate one or more landscaping problems at the site. Write a formal report that includes a proposal and feasibility study that describes the problem(s) in detail and outlines a plausible solution to the problem(s). Be specific about how the problem(s) affects people- citizens in the community, students, faculty members, employees, inhabitants, and so on. Following are some sample problems that could be evaluated. Poorly landscaped entrance Muddy, unpaved walkway between dormitories and academic buildings on a college campus Unpaved parking lot far from main campus buildings. Problem-
Entrance of landscape is designed very badly. Grass landscaping in front of entrance is making soil and dirt to spread all over park.
Solution:- Either make all grass landscaping which will make eliminate dirt problem or make use of paver blocks and proper drainage facilities on landscapes. Also, limiting use of water to keep grass fresh and green will also eliminate this problem.
Problem- Unpaved, muddy walkways.
Solution:- Use of Paver blocks, grit tiles, etc. can remove this problem.
Problem- Unpaved parking lot far from main campus building
Solution:- Bituminous paving or concrete paving will remove paving problem. Making appropriate changes in plans for taking parking lot near to campus buildings.
Problem- Soil runoff into the streets from several steep, muddy slots
Solution:- Destroying steep, muddy slots will remove this problem. If not possible so, high footpaths on both side of roads and also gutter formation on both side with cleaning facilities should be prepared.
Problem- City tennis court with poor drainage.
Solution:- Drainage facilities with providing correct slopes on tennis court will eliminate this problem.
Problem- Lack of adequate flowers and bushes in front of new office building.
Solution:- Sides of footpaths can be made of strip of flowers and bushes. Also, green landscaping around office building is essential, hence it must be provided.
Problem- Need of common landscape area
Solution:- Providing a golf court can increasing sporting culture as well as landscaping.
Problem- Saving of some large trees which are in danger dye to construction.
Solution:- If possible, changes in city planning can be made to save trees, else replantation of trees and cultivation of same till its full growth must be done.
These are some remedies that can be applied on construction to get desired results.
