Question
I know there are a lot of questions but if you could answer all of them that would be fantastic! Thank you.
6. Consider the Ti-Ni system in the figure.
a) What is the maximum solubility of Ni in alphaTi and Ti in Ni?
b) Label all two phase fields in the figure(can you check that I did this right please?)
c) Write all the eutectic equilibrium reactions existing in the diagram. Include the temperature at which they occur, the phases involved, and their respective compostions in wt%.
The next questions deal with an alloy of 20 wt% Ni, and 80% wt Ti that is slowly cooled from the completely liquid state
d) At what temperature does the first solid form and what is its compostion?
e) At what temperature does the last liquid exist and what is its composition?
f) At a temperature of 900 C what phases are present in the alloy, what are their compostions and what is the relative amount of each phase?
g) As a temperature of 900 C what is the relative amount of primary betta in your alloy?
Explanation / Answer
a)Maximum soluability of NI in alpha Ti ie 765 C and Ti in NI is also 765oC
b)All the phase are Martesenic phase , austenitic phase Rhombodial phase
c) Primary phase is formed in the + L region, and the eutectic structure that includes layers of and phases (called eutectic and eutectic phases) is formed upon crossing the eutectic isotherm. L + L +
A congruent transformation involves no change in composition (e.g., allotropic transformation such as -Fe to -Fe or melting transitions in pure solids). For an incongruent transformation, at least one phase changes composition (e.g. eutectic, eutectoid, peritectic
d) first solid form occcurs 1455 oC L + Ni Ti3 and last liquid occurs at 1670oC
f) Martenstic phase occurs at 900 C and their composition beta + gamma
g) as a temperature of 900 C beta 0.7 % of weight
