I tried an answer and it toldme: There are three upward forces that balance the weight ofthe cube. One of them is the normal force, and the other two arebuoyant forces. Write three of the forces in terms of the volume ofthe cube and solve for the normal force.

Density for glycerin is actually 1260kg/m3.

Bwater , Bgly and N areupward force; Mg is downward force

Bwater= water * V/4 * g (1/4 in water

Bgly = gly * 3V/4 * g (3/4 in glycerin

Mg (M= Mass of aluminum

Volume of aluminum = 0.5 3 = 0.125m3

Mass = V * = 2700kg/m3 * 0.125 m3 = 337.5 kg


N + Bwater+ Bgly –Mg= 0

N = Mg – Bwater-Bgly

= Mg – water(V/4)g – gly(3V/4)g

= 337.5 kg(g) – (1000kg/m3)(0.125m3/4)g –(1260kg/m3)(3*0.125m3/4)g

= 1843.625 N
