(a) Use trig to find the forces in the x and ydirections.

The onlyforce in the x direction is the force from the friction of thefloor on the legs of the locust. This can be calculated by doingthe following:
Fx = 0.45N * cos(57o) = 0.245N
The netforce in the y direction is the sum of the gravitational force andthe normal force from the floor on the locust.
Fy = -10m/s * 0.003kg + 0.45N * sin(57o) =0.374N
The netforce by the Pythagorean theorem is
Fnet2 = 0.2452 +0.3742
Fnet = 0.447N
(b) To find acceleration you use Newton’s secondlaw
Fnet = ma
a = 0.447N/ 0.003kg
a =149m/s2
(c) To find the takeoff velocity use thekinematic equations. The equation we use is the one without timebecause we don’t know it and we don’t care aboutit.
Vf2 = Vi2 +2ax
We want toknow Vf.
Vf2 = 0 + 2(149m/s2)(0.04m)
Vf = 29.8 m/s
(d) Use kinematic equations again to find out how farthe locust went. You’ll have to find the change in timefor x, which will be the same for y. After you find out how long hewill be in the air, you can use the equations again for y andsolve for change in distance.
