Question

A spherical weather balloon is filled with hydrogen until itsradius is 3.20 m. Its totalmass including the instruments it carries is 11.0 kg. (a) Find the buoyant force acting on the balloon, assuming thedensity of air is 1.29 kg/m3.
N

(b) What is the net force acting on the balloon and its instrumentsafter the balloon is released from the ground?

Explanation / Answer

Volume of the ball on is V=(4/3)R3
R = 3.2m
V = (4/3)(3.2m)3
pair = 1.29 kg/m3
then buoyant force acting on the balloon is Fb =Vpairg = [(4/3)(3.20)3][1.29kg/m3][9.8m/s2]

Now mass is m = 11 kg

The net force on the baloon is F = Fb - mg
So

F = [(4/3)(3.20)3][1.29kg/m3][9.8m/s2] -(11kg)(9.8m/s2)

Simply simplify and solve
