Question
An archer fish (see image at right) that is justbelow the surface of the water notices a fly on a
leaf above the water. From the fish’s current
position, the fly appears to the fish to be at
angle of 30º with respect to the normal to the
water surface. Remembering that the fish’s eye
is below the surface of the water, at what angle
should the fish shoot its jet of water to hit the
fly? Assume that the fish’s mouth is at the
water surface, and ignore any effects from the
index of refraction of the fish’s eye.
