Question
In 1975 I was working as a young jr engineer in an electronicscompany near New York City. After the holidays and on a Mondaymorning, I went back to work only to discover a very pretty newsecretary working in the engineering office. I could tell that shewas a college student by the books on her desk. She was probablyworking during the day and going to school at night. In talking toher I found that she was taking calculus and I thought that wasinteresting. I told her I was an engineering student working parttime here and going to Stony Brook University. So we got around to talking about college and how many years ittakes to get a degree and for some reason we got to talking aboutbirthdays. She wouldn't tell me when her birthday was so I said"why don't we go to lunch today and you can tell me when yourbirthday is."
She said she would go if I could answer the following riddle abouther birthday:
She said: "Three days ago I was 19 but next year I will be 22"
I went away thinking. I finally went back and told her when herbirthday was. On what day of the year did this conversation takeplace?
Hint: Has nothing to do with leap year.
