Question

I just finished an exam and want to see if i got the rightanswer. the questions are not exactly the same but close.

1. A figure skater is spinning on a frictionless surface withher arms horizontal. If she brings her arms to her side willher angular velocity increase, decrease or stay the same. Iput increase.

2. This one has to with angular momentum. I used the formulaL = MR^2w. We were given the mass of the earth and the radiusand how many seconds are in a year. I plugged in the mass andradius but i didnt know how to get omega.

If anyone can help that would be great so i dont have to stressthis weekend.

Explanation / Answer

if she brings her arms to her side according to law ofconservation of angular momentum,   I11      = I22   I = constant, where I is momenofinertia when she brings her arms her moment of inertia dicreases.so angular velocity increases. (2) = 2n
