Question

A site investigation was carried out using the boring plan you recommended. The soils encountered in the investigation were adequate to support shallow foundations and no major issues were detected. Several years later the building experienced differential settlements beyond tolerable limits. In the course of a resulting lawsuit, the location of the soil borings was called into question as a possible reason why the issue causing the differential settlements was not detected.

How would you defend your recommendation for the above boring locations?

Explanation / Answer

the cause for differential settlement may be by drought conditions, the root system of maturing trees, flooding, poor drainage, frost, broken water pipe lines and also vibrations created by surrounding constructions or poorly compacted soils.so it was sutiable when the time i personally investigated and support for shallow foundation but later on it may be effected by any of the reasons above mentioned. for the above reason we cant give guarantee for natural actions occurs so I definitely escape form the lawsuit against me.
