Question

These problems are for a course in nanomaterials. I don’t even know where to begin. Home Work-4 1. TGA and DTG Curves of neat and reinforced SC-15 epoxy are shown below. Samples were cured under magnetic field and SC-15 was reinforced with 1.0 wt% CNF. Describe the features you observe to anlyze the thermal decomposition behavior of both categories of samples. Neat SC-15 (3hr-28T) Peek 77072 19839 380 377c Complete decomposition 20 800 1000 Temperature(C) Temperature (C) (a) Neat (b) Reinforced TGA and DTG curves of magnetically cured SC-15 epoxy samples

Explanation / Answer

1)

FIRST CASE :

a)

As NEAT SC-15 is gradually heated, it weight % decreases and decomposes completely at nearly 720 C.

b)

But as NC-15 reinforced 1% wt CNF, its mechanical properties increases, so we get a complete decomposition at higher temperature compared to previous case.

SECOND CASE:

a)

As weight % of SCN-15 and its temperature is increased gradually, it reaches its peak point

b)

As weight % of SCN-15 reinforced with 1% CNF and its temperature is increased gradually, its peak point is hifgher than previous case because, now reinforced SCN is more stable and has more conductivity and heat resistant properties.
