All distances are in centimeters. Show all formulas in the space provided below. (6 points) TypeRReal or VirtualUpright or Inverted -20 +5 +10Explanation / Answer
Answer: e) (a) Lens formula: 1/p +1/q =1/f
Using the above formula, if f =-10 cm and q = 5 cm, p will be -10/3 cm
Magnification m = q/p = -1.5
The size of the image is magnified as m >1, as q is positive the image is real, the image is inverted as m is negative.
(b) p = 30 cm, m = 0.30, using the lens formula and magnification, we get q = 9 cm and f = 90/13 cm; as m <1 the image is diminished, as q is positive the image is real, the image is upright as m is positive.
Answer: f) (a) Lens formula: 1/p =1/q =1/f =2/R where, R is the radius of the mirror.
If p = 5 cm, R = -20 cm using the above formula we get q = -10/3 cm and f = -10 cm and m = -2/3 cm.
The image is virtual as q is negative, the image is inverted as m is negative.
(b) Using the above formulas and substituting the values we get, R = 2f = 20 cm, p = 10/3 cm, q = -5 cm. The image is virtual as q is negative, As m is negative the image is inverted.
