Please draw a force diagram and free body diagram and answer parts A-C. Please show all steps as i would like to learn. Thank you FRAMEWORK] A snow boarder who has recently waxed her board slides straight down a steep, icy slope with a grade of 40%. She starts from rest at the top of the run, which is 25 m long. (A) What assumptions can you make to simplify this situation to make it easier to analyze? (B) How fast is she going when she reaches the bottom? Give answer in m/s and mi/h. (C) How long does it take to her to reach the bottom?Explanation / Answer
Free body diagram, I cannot draw in this word file. However, I am solving the problem using simple force equations and I am sure you will not have any difficulty to understand the solution.
(A) The snow boarder has waxed her board means there is minimum friction between the board and the ice surface. To make the problem simpler, you can make the assumptions that the surface is frictionless.
(B) Ice slope with a grade of 40% means -
tan theta = 40/100 = 0.40
=> theta = 21.8 deg
So, the acceleration of the boarder along the slope, a = g*sin theta = 9.81*sin21.8 = 3.64 m/s^2
Therefore, velocity at the bottom, v = sqrt(2*a*s) = sqrt(2*3.64*25) = 13.5 m/s
Convert this in mile per hour = 30.2 mph
(C) Time taken by the boarder -
t = v / a = 13.5 / 3.64 = 3.71 s.
