Question
Please show your work! Thanks Jason and Brent race up a hill that is 30 m high. Jason takes a path that is 60 m while Brent uses a longer path that is 100 m long. It takes Jason 40 seconds, while Brent runs up his path in a shorter time of 30 seconds. They both start from rest at the same height and stop at the top. Also, they have the same weight. Jason Brent Is the work that Jason does in going up the hill () greater than, (i) less than, or (ii) the same as the work that Brent does in going up the hill? Is the power generated by Jason in going up the hill 6) greater than, (i) less than, or (ii) the same as the power generated by Brent in going up the hill?Explanation / Answer
(a)
Work done by jjason and brent,
Wj = mgh
Wb = mgh
since weight is same and height of hill is also same for both.
so, Wj = Wb
work that jason does in going up hill is same as work that brent does.
(b)
Power generated by jason,
Pj = W / t = mgh / 40
Power generated by brent,
Pb = mgh / 30
since jason takes more time.
Hence, power generated by jason will be less than the power generated by brent.
