Question

Physics 1111 Part I Perfect Inelastic Collision Mass Mi (object on the left) has a mass of 2.50 kg and a velocity to the right of+36 m/s. Mass M2 (object on the right) has a mass of 7.5 kg, and a velocity to the left of -2.00 m/s. Calculate the velocity of masses Mi and Mz after a perfectly inelastic collision. Simulate on IP and determine % error in the final velocity Hints: Set friction coefficients to zero, elasticity to zero for both objects, and your time step is 0.0001 seconds (or 10,000/s).

Explanation / Answer

we know that after perfectly inelastic collission both block will attaced to each other and will move with the same velocity ( lets say V m/s)

as there is no external force on system so the momentum will be conserve

1) m1u1 + m2u2 = m1v1 + m2v2

2.5 ( 36) + 7.5 ( -2) = (2.5+7.5) x V

75 = 10 V

V = 7.5 m/s

as it came + means the direction of motion will be right side.
