in meriam 6th ed, they use the second eqn. but in chapter 3,q153, the solution uses the first eqn to solve the answer? cananyone explain why?

Explanation / Answer

The first equation is correct becoz potential energy is 1/2*k*2 here =change in length =x2-x1 here =change in length =x2-x1
