Question
I have to do a project safety analysys for syngas to methanol Lurgi process. I am wondering where the real hazards are in the process? Please only give an answer if you truly understand the process. I'm not looking for a few random facts from wikipedia. I'm asking about the real dangers. Why do vessles fail? My group is starting to do a HAZOP but we don't understand what can truly happen and what doesn't happen. Are there any dangers of fire or explosion inside pipes? We are looking at a system with hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide as the main syngas components. Side components in the reaction are 1-propanol and acetone...
Thanks
Explanation / Answer
1) Because of cavitation 2) Because of chance of evolution of hydrogen during decomposition 3) because of excessive shear concentrations at the junctions
