Rigid bar ABC shown in the figure is supported by a pin at bracket A and by tie rod (1). Tie rod (1) has a diameter of 4 mm, and it is supported by double-: pin connections at B and D. The pin at bracket A is a single-shear connection. All pins are 6 mm in diameter. Assume a = 525 mm, b = 275 mm, h - 40 mm, P = 775 N, and 0 = 50degree. Determine the following: the normal stress in rod (1) the shear stress in pin B the shear stress in pin AExplanation / Answer
normal stress in rod 1 =[ 775sin50/ sin{tan^-1(400/525)} ] / (%u03C0*4*4*10^-6)
= (593.685 / 0.606)/(50.266*10^-6) = 979.678*10^6/50.266 = 19.49 MPa
Shear stress in pin B = 979.678 / (%u03C0*6*6*10^-6) = 97.678 * 10^6 / 113.1 = 0.864 MPa
