Explanation / Answer

By observing the positive value of the currents, and their directions, you can determine the properties of these elements. Using the passive sign convention, we know that current flows in the direction of voltage drops. An element that drops voltage is the resistor. Since D and E and in parallel, they are both at 10V, so a good candidate for D and E is a resistor. Resistors absorb power, so D and E are absorbing power. C is also absorbing power because there is a voltage drop in the direction of the positive current. A is delivering power because the sum of the voltage drops around a closed loop must be 0 (kirchoff's voltage law). B is also delivering power because it is a voltage rise in the direction of the positive current. For the second part, you need to figure out the current going through the 20 ohm resistor. Once that is achieved you can turn the huge part of the circuit on the right into one equivalent resistor, and with the current known, do a voltage divider and solve for R. Good luck!
