Question
In A RLC series circuit, if Xc > XL and “f” is frequency of AC voltage source. The current leads voltage by 60°. Find expression for value “C”.please give me a detailed answer sir because tomorrow is my mid term exam and this question has enough chance to be there in paper.
thanks........
Explanation / Answer
the capacitive reactance is given by Xc=1/[(2pi)xfxC] the inductive reactance is given by X(L)=(2pi)xfxL in the series RLC circuit., the total impedence is given by Z=R+j(Xc-X(L)) for given Xc>X(L) if it is given X(L)>Xc then the impedence becomes Z=R+j(X(L)-Xc) now let the series RLC circuit is connected to a voltage source Vs then the current in circuit is given by I=Vs/Z here Z is taken according to the given conditions.. The value of 'C' is given by C=1/[(2pi)xfxXc] and in case if angular frequency(w) is given, then Xc=1/wC,X(L)=wL, I wish you all success in your exam.. :)
