Question
An inventor says he's come up with an idea to utilize the large hydrostatic pressure at the bottom of the oceans to obtain kinetic energy. He claims that by placing a large nozzle at the bottom of the ocean and installing a pipe system, water can be delivered to the surface, due to the large pressure force on the nozzle at the bottom of the ocean. He says that he will initiate the flow with the help of a pump at first. Once water starts coming out, he says he will disconnect the pump and claims the large pressure on the nozzle will sustain the flow. Explain why this is not possible.
Explanation / Answer
It's simple.. because the pressure head that is supplied by the pump initially to supply the water to surface vanishes when the pump is removed..and the ocean being a huge tank of water where the height doesn't vary or the variance is negligible..so the pump is required for the continuous pumping of water.. please rate it buddy :)
