Question

Steam enters a turbine at 120 bar, 516oC. At the exit, the pressure and quality are 50 kPa and 0.894, respectively. Determine the power (kW) produced by the turbine if the mass flow rate is 1.46 kg/s and the heat loss from the turbine is 190 kW.

Answer

Correct Answer:

1,254.6

Explanation / Answer

At inlet :

P1 = 120 bar

T1 = 516 C

So from steam tables..we get :

h1 = 3391.83 kJ / kg

At outlet,

P2 = 50 kPa

x2 = 0.894

from steam charts, we get :

h2 = 2401 kJ / kg

So, power = m* ( h1 - h2) - heat lost = 1.46 * (3391.83 - 2401) - 190

= 1254.61 kW

The values are read from the charts...so there can be slight difference in the result..

So your answer is approx . = 1254.61 kW
