Question

Map Sapling Learning Determine the direction of the force (if any) that will act on the charge in each of the following situations A negative charge within an electric field that points downward upward A positive charge within an electric field that points to the right to the right A negative charge moving into the screen in a magnetic field that points to the left downward A positive charge moving out of the screen in a magnetic field that points upward to the left A negative charge moving to the right in an electric field that points into the screen zero force A negative charge moving out of the screen in a magnetic field that points out of the screen Incorrect One or more of your answers is not correct. Explanation / Answer

1. upward - F = qE ; since the carge is negative, the direction of force is opposite to electric field.
2. to the right - Force and electric firld will be same direction, since charge is positve.
3. downward - F = i L x B . The direction of current is z direction. Direction of magnetic field is to the left -x direction. From right hand rule, direction of F is downward { (z) x (-x) = -y }.
4. to the left - The direction of current is z direction. Direction of magnetic field is to the left y direction. From right hand rule, direction of F is downward { (z) x (y) = - x }.
5. out of the screen. - No matter weather the charge is in motion or not, if it is in an electric field. It will experience force. Since it is negatively chagred it experiences forse in opposite direction.
6. Zeroforce. - since cross product value is zero.
