Question
I need help with these last 2 problems!! I have worked them out several times and I am not getting the correct answer, for neither. Help for both, is greatly appreciated!!
niel takes his two dogs. Pauli the Pointer and Newton the Newfoundland, out to a field and lets them loose to exercise. Both dogs sprint away in different directions, while Daniel stands still. From Daniel's point of view, Newton runs due North at 4.90 m/s, but from Pauli's point of view, Newton appears to be moving at 1.90 m/s due East. What must Pauli's velocity relative to Daniel be for this to be true? Give your answer in unit vector notation, where North is taken to be the positive y-direction and East is the positive x-direction. Next, express your answer as a magnitude and an angle measured counter-clockwise from due East. Number Number Unit Vector Notation:m/s) m/ sJ S + m/ s J Number Number Magnitude & Direction: | | L | m/ s at o counter-clockwise from due East.Explanation / Answer
Given,
v1 = 4.9 m/s ; v2 = 1.9 m/s
with respect to Daniel, Pauli has velocity of
-1.9 i + 4.9 j
Hence, v = -1.9 i + 4.9 j
b)v = sqrt (-1.9^2 + 4.9^2) = 5.26 m/s
Hence, v = 5.26 m/s
theta = tan^-1(4.9/-1.9) = -68.8 deg
Hence, theta = -68.8 deg = 111.2 deg
