The case is about a patient who is non responsive after a surgery and the the patient, before the surgery, states that he does not want any extra effort to be added in order to save him. Though, the patient did not get any formal paper work confirming his wish. His wish, had however been made in front of his family to the doctor. Though, it has not been made clear as to why no paperwork had been signed. Also, it has not been made clear as to why any of the family members were not available at the time of the surgery.
A particular approach that has been taken is surgery and the physician trying to save the patient. The doctor is attempting that the patient would regain consciousness and would live. Since, no paper work had been signed that stated his wish, neither was there any of the family member. Hence, live saving measures were taken.
The criteria that dictated the course of action was the hipocratic oath, that mentions that the medical professional had to save the patient in every possible way. In case there was a signed document mentioning the wish of the patient, the doctor could have decided otherwise. Options that could have been used is calling an emergency number of a family member.
The outcome of the plan taken is that the patient couldn’t survive. The patient was anyway in a critical condition and the doctor tried to save him. Though, the doctor was not successful in his actions.
