Answer questions 4-7 Given a polynucleotide sequence such as CCTAATGGCT, explain what further information you would d in order to identify which end is the 5' end. (Hint: take another look at Figure 13.16) 5. Draw a line tracing the lagging strand template along the entire stretch of DNA shown in the figure below. Leading strand template DNA pol IIl Parental DNA Leading strand 5'3' 5 Connecting protein DNA pol I11 Helicase Lagging strand template 3' Lagging strand Overall direction of replication 6. What role does base pairing play in the replication of DNA? is the relationship between DNA replication and the S phase of the cell cycle? 7. What

Explanation / Answer

Hi,

4. To identify the 5’ end,we need to know any one of the following:

5. See the image.

6. The base pairing is the most important feature in DNA replication. The base pairing ensure that the correct base pair attachment in the newly formed strand. It also ensure proper formation of double stranded DNA, folding of DNA into the helical structure. It is also required for binding of primer and RNA primer in leading and lagging strand.

7. The cell cycle is divided into 4 stages: G1, S, G2 and M

The cell has to divide its DNA first, before it can divide into two daughter cells. The DNA replication occurs in the S phase of cell cycle. The S stands for synthesis.
