Question
Describe, in molecular terms, what it is that is similar and what it is that differs between two alleles of the same gene, both in the alleles themselves and in their gene products. Be specific and detailed about the molecular composition and properties of genes and their products (I.e. the items that genes exist to control the production of) in answering this question. Ans) An allele is an alternative form of a gene which is present in same locus. Two allele of a gene are same then they expess same type of character. This expressed character is called homozygous (dominant or recessive). This expression of character is altered if there is some change in the allele.Though the change between the dominant and recessive allele is mainly of one nucleotide mostly but they share a greater extend of same gene. This change between the dominant and recessive allele can be determined by Single Nucleotide Polymorphism or SNP. As both the allele are same but due to the present of one extra nucleotide it has some obstruction for its expression and termed as recessive. Pea plant can be placed as an example where it can be said that the allele "TT" is dominant in nature and both the allele has same type of genes and there is very less or no variation between the gene of same allele. But for allele "Tt" i.e. heteroygous dominant, the recessive allele "t" is slightly different from the dominant allele"T"and this difference may be of one nucleotide. only.
