Question
Coupling doesn't occur all by itself. In this example, if this experiment was set up so that the ATP would have to be hydrolyzed in one tube and the glucose phosphorylated in another, no coupling would be possible. Coupling can occur only when the partial reactions are part of a larger o system. In this example, coupling occurs because both partial reactions are carried out by the enzyme hexokinase. In other cases, coupling can involve membrane transport, transfer of electrons by a common intermediate, or other proc that coupled reactions must have some component in common. Reaction 2: ATP ADP + Pi Reaction 3 Glucose + ATP glucose 6-phosphate + ADP Reaction 1: Glucose + r,-, glucose 6 phoephate esses. Another way of stating this principle is Reaction coordinate 13. The "orderliness" of your body is not favored by entropy. Explain (in terms of free energy and disorder) why you need to eat? 14. Why does decomposition of a dead animal happen in terms of energy? What would happen if we increase temperature? Why do we freeze food? 15. Explain why plant cells need light to build sugar (in terms of energy)Explanation / Answer
13. It is required to eat because eating of food helps in the generation of energy that keep the organism alive. The energy is stored in the ATP (adenosine tri phosphate) that is occur by phosphorylation of ADP. This is an example of coupling reaction. Hydrolysis of ATP releases ADP and phosphate that increase the disorder or randomness.
14. Decomposition of dead animal happen because it release the energy stored in the dead animal into environment and thus increases the free energy. If we increase the temperature, then decomposition rate will be slow and less free energy will be back in the environment. We freeze the food because it lower the activity of microorganism that are present on food.
15. The plant cell need light in order to make carbohydrates from carbon dioxide and water with the help of sunlight energy. The sunlight energy is trapped in plants as carbohydrates and used for the generation of the ATP. In this way energy of sunlight is taken up the plant and example of coupling energy.
