Question

You've been talking about the concept of energy for many years | since grade school. You've probably had chemistry and biology classes in which energy was a central element of the conversation. Now in physics we are slowly building the concept of a particular kind of energy | mechanical energy (kinetic and potential). What do you think energy is? How would you explain it to a non-scientificc roommate?
To a seven year old? (Not just mechanical energy | all energy.)

i said energy is the ability to do work. explaining energy to a non scientific roommate will be ability to do something and explaining to a seven year old will be putting effort into something to get a result.

what do you think? how will you respond?

thanks for your help

Explanation / Answer

Yes, i agree with you. The way you explained is the simplest way to explain about the concept ENERGY to a non scientific room mate. ______________________________________________________________________ The energy is the ability to do the work. Some examples: we are walking, running, playing and reading etc... only because of the internal energy which is stored in our body. We got this energy by taking food. hope it hepls
