Question

A radio transmitting station operating at a frequency of 115 MHz has two identical antennas that radiate in phase. Antenna B is 9.05 m to the right of antenna A. Consider point P between the antennas and along the line connecting them, a horizontal distance x to the right of antenna A.

For what values of x will constructive interference occur at point P?

Enter your answers in ascending order separated by a comma.

I put my answer as x= 4.53,3.22,1.92,0.613 m and it still shows that my answer does not have the correct number of separated commas. What is the full answer then?

Explanation / Answer

lambda = c / f

= (3 x 10^8) / (115 x 10^)

lambda = 2.61 m

Constructive Interference happen when

path diff = n * lambda

n = 0, 1, 2, ......

path diff = 0 then its mid point,

so d = 9.05/2 = 4.525 m

path diff = 2.61 m

so d = 5.83 m Or 3.22

path diff = 2 lambda = 5.22 m

d = 7.135m Or 1.915 m

path diff = 3 lambda = 7.83 m

d = 0.61 m OR 8.44 m

Ans. x = 0.61, 1.915, 3.22, 4.525, 5.83, 7.135, 8.44
