Question

A wave has the form: y(x,t)=4.00cmcos(2.00s(x1.50m/st)) .

Part A

What is the wave number?

Part B

What is the angular frequency?

Part C

What is the frequency?

Part D

What is the wavelength?

Part E

What is the amplitude of the wave?

Part F

What is the period?

Part G

What is the speed of this wave?

Part H

What is the maximum speed of the material the wave is traveling in? (For example, if this is a transverse wave on a rope, what is the maximum speed of a piece of the rope?)

Please help me with this, I once new how but can't remember how to do this as this is from my review assignment. Thanks in advance.

k =   rad/m

Explanation / Answer

Wavnumber is k =3 m^-1

Angular Frequency, w = 2 rads^-1

Frequency =2/6.28 =0.314 Hz

Wavelength = 6.28/k = 2.06 m

Amplitude = 4 cm

Period = 6.28/W = 6.28/2 = 3.14 S

Speed = freqency*wavelength =2.016*0.314 =0.633 m/s

Vmax = AW =4*10^-2*2 = 0.08 m/s
