Could really use some help with this.. thanks
Two point charges are placed 2.0 apart. They are fixed in place so that they do not move. A small ball of charge 3.0 x lO^-9 C is placed at point A. The ball is small enough that it can be treated as a point charge. What is the net electrical force exerted on the ball ? What is the electric field at point A (both magnitude and direction)? How would your answers to part (a) change it the ball had had a charge of -3.0 x 10^-9 C? Explain. How would your answers to part (a) for the electric field change if the ball hai k. -net charge? Explain. 3 ZeroExplanation / Answer
a) net electrc force is due to the two charges
F = kq1q/r12+ kq2q/r22
q1 = 1.0 x 10-6 C
q2 = -2.0 x 10-6 C
q = 3.0 x 10-9 C
r1 = 3cm
r2 = 1cm
plugging in we get the net force
F = 0.51 N towards the charges
electrc field E = F/q = 1.7 x 108 N/C upwards
b) force would be 0.51 N downwards
c) electric field would remain same as it does not depend on the charge of the ball
b)
