To choose or not to choose.... Please post your response below and then return later, or tomorrow,to read and respond to your classmates. It has been suggested that we may eventually be able to select the characteristics/genes of our children (check out the movie GATTACA some time for some perspective on this idea). Would you choose to select the traits of your offpsring if you could, or would you leave it to chance? Justify your answer...make sure you give us at least one specific reason why you would or would not and ELABORATEExplanation / Answer

Their is an ethical dilemma around the selection of traits of our offspring. This revolves around the criteria on the basis of which an individual should be judged - Should it be based on the genetics or based on the traits selected by parents.
The selection of traits will lead to elimination of undesirable features and the future selections will be based on the genetic enhancement of an individual and not individual's character. Designer babies which are genetically engineered invitro for selection of traits and to have certain desired qualities like free from diseases, smart, athletic abilities would make this whole process of having offsprings based on commoditization.
Given a choice, I would not select the traits of your offspring. Other than the matter of choice, it can have adverse effects like decrease in genetic variability (example majority of parents selecting tall traits for their offsprings)
