Question

I know A-C is correct, just looking to make sure I did D and E right. Im more confused by the wording than anything.

a.)    Find the equivalent resistance of the circuit. Draw equivalent circuits by either simplifying resistors in series or in parallel. (Do not do both in one step.)   All resistances are in ohms ( ).

b.)    Find the current through the circuit.

         36V / 24 = 1.5A

c.)    Find the current through each resistor using rules for resistors in parallel and in series.

        R8=1.5A      R4=1.5A    R72 = .25A    R36=.5A    R24=.75A

d.)   Find the voltage drop across the 72 resistor.

     V=IR    72(.25A) = 18V

e.)    Find the power dissipated through the 72 resistor.

     P=IV     (.25A)(18V) = 4.5W

Explanation / Answer

Yes, you did them exactly correct with V = IR and P = IV. Those are the correct equations to use.
