Explanation / Answer

R2 and R3 are in parallel, So

R23 = R2*R3/(R2 + R3)

R23 = 7*3.7/(7 + 3.7) = 2.42 ohm

Now R23 and R1 are in series, So

Req = R23 + R1 = 2.42 + 7.40

Req = 9.82 ohm

Using ohm's law:

V = i*Req

i = (5 + 5)/9.82 = 1.02 Amp

Now remember in resistors parallel combination voltage distribution in each part will be same and in series combination current distribution in each resistor will be same.

Current in R1 = Current in R23 = 1.02 Amp

Voltage in R23 = i23*R23

V23 = 1.02*2.42 = 2.47 V

Now Since R2 and R3 are in parallel, So

V2 = V3 = V23 = 2.47 V

Now Current in R3 will be

i3 = V3/R3 = 2.47/3.70

i3 = 0.67 Amp

B.

Power in R3 will be

P3 = V3*i3

P3 = 2.47*0.67

P3 = 1.65 W
