Need help with a, b, & c Verizon LTE * 28% í D. 11:44 PM a session.masteringphysics.comm Problem 9.40 MasteringPhysics Constants Far in space, where gravity is negligible, a 425 kg rocket traveling at 5.0 m/s in the positive x-direction fires its engines. The figure F (N) 1000 t (s) 0 10 20 30 Q Tap image to zoom shows the thrust force as a function of time. The mass lost by the rocket during these 30.0 s is negligible. Part A What impulse does the engine impart to the rocket? Submit Request Answer

Explanation / Answer

Given,

m = 425 kg ; v = 55 m/s

a)The impulse in F t graph will be the area under the graph

I = A = 1/2 B A

I = 0.5 x 30 x 1000 = 15000 N-s

Hence, I = 15000 N-s

b)We know from eqn of motion

v = u + at

for constant acceleration, more will be the time, more will be the value of value of velocity

so v is maximum at t = 30 s

c)J = Ft => F = J/t = 15000/30 = 500 N

F = ma => a = F/m = 500/425 = 1.176 m/s^2

from, v = u + at

v = 55 + 1.76 x 30 = 90.28 m/s

Hence, v = 90.28 m/s
