Question

Please help! Thank you so much <3 You survey a population of cotton rats at the Coastal Center for variation at a SNP locus. You find 30 individuals that are A/A, 71 are A/G and 67 are G/G. what is the frequency of the A allele in this population? For the population in the previous question, what will the frequency of the A allele be when the population is in Hardy Weinberg equilibrium? When the population in Question 1 is in Hardy Weinberg Equilbrium, what will be the frequency of heterozygous individuals? Is the population in Question 1 in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium? For your answer, also give the value of the chi-square statistic, the degrees of freedom, the p-value (use the table in your text) In the current population, as described in Question 1, what would be the frequency of mating between A/A and A/G individuals?

Explanation / Answer

If the population in given data is according to hardy -weinberg law, then the genotypic frequency of allele A is square of p that is 5.4. Frequency for the genotype of heterozygous individual is 2pq that is 35.1.Value of chi square must be greater than 3.841 and the value of degree of freedom is 1 ,we are dealing with 2 allele. But after calculating chi square for this data value remains less than the 3.841 and hence this population is not according to hardy Weinberg law.Frequency of mating between AA and AG individual is that two type of individual are formed as the parent type and the total genotypic frequency remain same .
