Plant physiology problem

Questions 1-4. The figure below presents changes in light intensity over a 24 hr period. (please note that the figure is hpothetical and does notpresent actual data). In the table below the figure, indicate relative differences (high vs low) in the specified parameters at the indicated times. For example, "rubisco activity" requires you to indicate if rubisco activity at 2:00 am is higher or lower than rubisco activity at 1:00 pm. (4points) High Low arameter 00 pm Rubisco activity Parameter Ribulose bisphosphate concentration in stroma :00 pm Parameter :00 pm 3-phosphoglycerate concentration in stroma Parameter 00 pm Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate concentration in stroma

Explanation / Answer

Activity of Rubisco depends on intensity of light. At 2:00 AM there is no light, so the acitivity of Rubisco is minimum and at 1:00PM light is maximum so, the activity of Rubisco is maximum

There are 5 enzymes whose activity is controlled by light in kelvin cycle. Rubisco and Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase are one of them. Rubisco control the ribulose bisphosphate and 3-phosphoglycerate concentration. so, the concentration of both of these product at 2:00am is minimum and at 1:pm is maximum.

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehdrogenase control the production of Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate. so, the concentration of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate is minimum at 2:00am and maximum at 1:00pm.
