Question

Need help with BOTH the "Moon" and "Acceleration" sections below. Thank You!:)

Moon Calculate the weight in poundals and the mass in slugs of a 141 lbm person on the moon, where the gravitational acceleration is one sixth of that on earth. poundals slugs SHOW HINT By accessing this Question Assistance, you will learn while you earn points based on the Point Potential Policy set by your instructor. Attempts: 0 of 5 used SAVE FOR LATER SUBMIT ANSWE Acceleration A force of 305 poundals is exerted on a 37.0 slug object. At what rate does the object accelerate? m/s2

Explanation / Answer

here first question of moon says that if you measure weight of person on earth or any other planet , the weight will affect by gravitational acceleration.

so if we consider gravitational acceleration on earth is 10 m/s^2 and according to that 1/6th part of that is (10/6) m/s^2

now for acceleration

let's convert slug to Ib, 37 * 32.2 = 1191.4 lb

as we know newton second law of motion, force = mass * acceleration

to find value of acceleration convert all values in SI unit system so 305 poundal = 42.16 newton

same 37 slug = 539.97 kg

42.16 = 539.97 * acceleration so acceleration = (42.16/539.97) = 0.078 m/s^2
