Question
please help me
Often times the index of refraction can be represented by a Cauchy model when below the resonant frequency, n( lambda ) = A + B/ lambda 2 + C/ lambda 4. The first material is air with a refractive index of n1 = 1.00 and the refractive index of the second material shown in the above diagram is given by the Cauchy model with A = 1.23, B = 5.38 Times 104nm2, and C = 3.10 Times 108nm4. A laser beam with a peak wavelength of lambda = 630nm is incident at the material interface. (a) What is the refractive index of the second material (b) At what angle does the P-polarization exhibit perfect transmission through the interface (Brewester's angle)?
Explanation / Answer
putting the values we get refractive index for the second material
we get
n= 1.3675
thus
tan theta= n2/n1
theta= arc(1.3675)
= 53.8 degree
