a) Find the acceleration of the system.
answer: 3.06 m/s2

b) Find the tension in the string.

answer: 2.5N

Explanation / Answer

a) T = Mc*a and Mh*g-T = Mh*a

==> Mh*g= (Mh+Mc)*a

==> a = 371*9.8/(371+817)= 3.06 m/s^2

b)T = 0.817*3.06 = 2.5 N

c)vf^2 = vi^2+2as (vi =0)

==> vf = sqrt(2*3.06*3.92) = 4.9 m/s
