7. (4 Points) A grad student is studying a mutant fly that has tiny, almost absent eyes. She maps the rd required for eye development. To determine whether the gene is expressed in eyes, she should: A) Make a transgenic fly expressing a fluorescent protein under the control of the eyex promoter B) Make a transgenic fly expressing eyeX under the control of promoter of a gene expressed in the eye C) Make a knock-out fly lacking the entire eyex coding sequence D) More than one is correct

Explanation / Answer

I think option D is correct.

A) make a transgenic fly expressing eyeX gene and fluorescent protein under control of eyeX promoter.

from this transgenic fly more the eyeX protein form, more the transgenic fluorescent protein express and by checking the expression of fluorescent protein we may say that eyeX protein is required for eye development.

C) In another set of experiment we knock-out the eyeX gene and check the effect of the knock out that whether eye has been developed or not.

by this two experiment, we can draw the final conclusion about eye X gene.
