Question

I recently flipped my motorcycle and I am trying to calculate the speed I was going to have enough inertia to flip my bike. Let me know if you would need to know anything else to answer it. Thanks.

I weigh 250 lbs. the bike weighs 173kg. i put our weights together and its 283 kg i believe. the wheel base is set at 1415mm while the overall length is 2085mm. the seat height is 835mm but since i am going to be closer to the center of gravity of it will be probably 10 inches higher or 254mm. and i now the center of the wheels is 7xxmm. i believed that i was traveling at 10mph or less. when i stopped, i came to a complete stop right away. there were no skid marks so i didnt slide at all.

Explanation / Answer

when you break, the force applied will tople you while the force due to gravity will try to prevent you from doing so.

lets you were travelling at speed v m/s

as force applied=change in momentum/time

we need the time taken to reach halt to solve the question.

lets assume time=t

then force=283*v/t

then balancing torque about the base of front wheel,

(283*v/t)*(1.415)=283*9.8*0.254

so put t and you will get the value of v.
