Question

The answer is 9.6 Light years!!

I need someone to explain this to me!!

I thought I have to use Velocity= distance/time to figure out the answer, but using this equation the answer is 16.0 light years (which is NOT correct answer)

Can someone please~~!!!! help me explain this problem?!?!??!

As measured by an earth-based observer you travel for a total of 20 years from earth at a speed of 0.80c. How far from earth do you go as measured in your frame? 55.5 light years 44.4 light years 16.0 light years 9.6 light years 5.8 light years None of the above.

Explanation / Answer

d' = v*t' = v*t* sqrt( 1 - (v/c)^2) = 0.8c*20*sqrt( 1- 0.8^2) = 9.6 light years
